| A beast seriously wounded the Conductor while he was making his rounds of the Station. I thought I'd studied all the monsters of the City, but this poison is unknown to me. It's very fast acting . Any mistake in the cure could have serious consequences, so Paracelsus' First-aid Kit would really help me. |

パラケルスス：ギリシャ時代っぽい名前に反して、16世紀のスイス人医師で錬金術師。パラケルススは本人の名乗った雅号みたいなもの。当時の前時代的な医学に真っ向から異論を唱え、化学を医学に持ち込んだ最初の人物で、toxicology(毒物学)の祖。 全ての物質が許容量を超えると毒物になると言った言葉が有名。(Only the dose makes the poison) ピンと来ないかもしれないが、実は人体に必須な酸素や水ですら、許容摂取量を超えれば中毒を起こす。 |

| Even though Paracelsus was self-taught, he was very talented - he used a lot of chemistry and alchemy in his work. His First-aid Kit made a diagnosis and prepared the right medicine by itself. The problem is that you can only find it by using several of Paracelsus' medical instruments. The first of these is the Thermometer, of course. Will you find it? |

★Aspirin アスピリン：元々は商品名で、痛み止めの代名詞。柳の葉っぱにも同様の成分(サリチル酸)が含まれており、紀元前から痛み止めとして使われて来た歴史がある。 ★サリチル酸：柳から分離される薬効成分だが、胃に穴が開くほど酸性度が高いので、それをアセチル化して飲める程度にしたのがアスピリン。 ちなみにサリチル酸からは湿布薬の材料になるサリチル酸メチルを作る事も出来る。いずれにしても痛み止め。 サリチル酸も湿布薬みたいな匂いがするぞ。 give you some credit: 君に信用を与える→大したもんだ。感心してる時などに使う。 |
