Valerie came to see me the other day. She's a local girl, very curious, and was looking at the old trains. I went to my lodge to make some tea and suddenly heard a scream. I ran out but she was no longer there. One minute she was roaming between the cars and the next she's disappeared! Please help us find her. Maybe she fell asleep somewhere, or wants to play hide-and-seek. That wouldn't be unexpected.	Conductor コンダクター	バレリーがこの間会いに来たんだ。バレリーっていうのは、この近くに住んでる娘で、好奇心が旺盛でな、その日は古い車両を眺めてた。俺は駅員室にお茶を入れに行っていて、そしたら突如叫び声が聞こえたんだ。俺が外に飛び出した時には、彼女はもうそこにはいなかった。今しがた車両の中をウロウロしてたのに次の瞬間もう姿がなかったんだぞ！彼女を探すのを手伝ってくれ。どっかその辺で寝こけてるか、かくれんぼをしたがってるのかもしれない。そういう可能性だってないわけじゃないだろ。	💬コンダクターの設定が他のサブクエなどとちょっと違います。読んでいくと分かりますが、女嫌いの独身主義者の設定です。個人的にはこのコンダクターもカッコよくて好きです。 かくれんぼ云々は、本当にそう思っているわけではなく、そうだったらいいのにというコンダクターの願望です。嫌な予感がしてるから余計にって感じですかね。
What is it, a tuft of hair? Stiff dark gray hair... either a dog's or a wolf's. We'd better it to Martha.		なんだそりゃ、毛の束？ゴワゴワしたダークグレーの毛…犬か狼か。マーサに見せた方がいいな。
[Mysterious Clue] Chemical Essence - Explore the Room of Fate.		［ミステリアスな手がかり］ 化学薬品－運命の部屋を探索せよ。
I could analyze the hair and find out whose it is. To do so, I need some chemical essence, which is in one of my vials. I can't remember where it is because of all this perfume mess.	Martha マーサ	できるにはできるわよ、その毛を分析して何の毛か特定するんでしょ。但しそれには、ある化学薬品が必要なのよ。薬瓶に入ってるんだけれどどこにいったか思い出せないのよね。何しろいろんなの匂いのモノが混ざってしまって。	I could analyze~：やろうと思えばできるが、薬品がなくてできないためcanがcouldになっている。要するに今はできないのだが、マーサ的にはできないとは言いたくないのです。そして失くしたとも絶対言わないのです。

Valerie has disappeared and I have no idea how to find her. This girl is happy and has a kind heart, she doesn't deserve to perish by the paws of a werewolf. A few important notes that will help you with the search are already written in your Diary.	Conductor コンダクター	バレリーが姿を消して、どう探したもんか見当も付かんな。あの娘は楽しいことが好きで暖かい心を持ってる。狼男の爪にかかって死ぬような事があっちゃならないんだ。重要なことをいくつかお前の日誌に描いておいたから、探索の役に立つだろう。

A young woman, just recently arrived in Shadow City, has vanished under mysterious circumstances - maybe she saw something not intended for bystander's eyes. This is not the first disappearance in the dangerous City of Shadows, but you can at least save this victim. If you are quick enough, of course.	Introduction 序文	つい最近シャドウ=シティに現れたばかりの若い女の子が不可解な状況下で姿を消したーもしかすると意図せず何かを目撃してしまったのかもしれない。危険極まりないシャドウ=シティにおいては、人がいなくなるのは今に始まった話ではないが、少なくともこの犠牲者については助けることができるはずだ。言わずもがな、間に合うべく迅速に対処できれば、だ。	★題名の出典は言わずと知れたBeauty and the Beast「美女と野獣」です。 of course: 見て聞いてすぐ分かる、あるいは聞かずともわかる自明のことについて使います。
Valerie fell into the werewolves' clutches! She's in danger and you're the only one who can save her.	Pop-up message	バレリーが狼男たちの手に落ちた！彼女に命の危険が迫っている、救えるのは君しかいない。

A turf of werewolf hair was found at the crime site. If we find the werewolves who abducted Valerie, they will show us where they're hiding her. Goal: Find the werewolves.	Chapter1 第一章	失踪現場で狼男の毛の束が見つかった。バレリーを攫(さら)った狼男たちを見つければ、彼女が捕まっている場所も分かるだろう。 Goal:  狼男の群を探せ。

Have werewolves kidnapped Valerie? Several species of these creatures inhabit the City. Long ago they were under the command of a powerful mage, then they managed to break free and started attacking people. However, lately they've become rare visitors to our city. They were either eliminated or someone regained control of them. If these monsters roam the streets again and are kidnapping little girl, we're in trouble.	Conductor コンダクター	狼男たちがバレリーを攫(さら)ったってのか？シティには何種類かの狼男が生息してる。かなり前に奴らは強力な魔法使いの支配下にあったんだが、その後どうやったのかその支配を抜け出し、人々を襲い始めたんだ。だが、最近は街で見かけなくなって来てたのさ。駆逐(くちく)されたのか誰かが奴らの指揮権を取り戻したのか。あの怪物たちがまた通りをうろつき始めて、年端(としは)もいかない女の子を攫って行ったって言うなら、こいつは厄介(やっかい)だぞ。	💬その狼男を指揮していた魔法使いってのも気になる所ではあります。

I didn't expect werewolves to reappear in the Station. Once, they had a habit of prowling here, but I made short work of a bunch of them. I've become an expert an hunting them down and they all know it. The Conductor is not one to be trifled with! These monsters can only be killed with silver knives, you should find a couple of them as soon as possible.	Conductor コンダクター	俺は狼男たちが駅に再び現れるとは思ってなかったんだ。以前は奴らもこの辺をよくうろついていたんだが、まとめて軽く捻(ひね)ってやったからな。おかげで俺は奴らを狩ることにかけてはエキスパートだ、あいつらもそれをよくわかってるのさ。コンダクターは易々(やすやす)と相手には出来ないってな！あの化け物どもは銀のナイフでしか殺せない、できるだけ早いことそいつをいくつか見つけないとな。	I make a short work: ちょちょいと片付ける。簡単に言ってますが、狼男の一団を簡単にやっつけられるってどんだけ強いんでしょうか。

A werewolf showed up in the square! It would seem to fear nothing. Kill the beast and teach its brethren a lesson.	Conductor コンダクター	狼男が広場に現れたぞ！恐れを知らんと見える。あの獣を殺して奴らの同胞(はらから)どもの見せしめにしてくれるぜ。	brethren: brothers(仲間たち)の古風な言い方。
A Werewolf is a fierce creature of the night. Once human, it would have experienced love, tenderness and compassion, but those days are gone. Its human nature forgotten, it is now a merciless, nocturnal beast in the darkness.	Werewolf 狼男	狼男は夜に生きる獰猛(どうもう)な生物である。かつて人間であった頃は愛や優しさや憐みの心を持っていたのかもしれないが、その日々は遠く過ぎ去ってしまった。人の心は忘れ去られ、今はもう情け容赦のない夜の闇に生きる獣になってしまっているのだ。
Just a moment ago you were alive and now you lie dead; such is the bitter philosophy of life. If I seem bloodthirsty - I hate these creatures with all heart, just like the Huntress. If this werewolf is one of Valerie's kidnappers, where did they take her? I never thought I'd say this of a woman but I'm worried about the girl!	Conductor コンダクター	ほんの一瞬前までお前は生きていた、そして今は死んで横たわっている。こういうのも人生の苦い哲学さ。俺が血に飢えたように見えたなら―俺がこいつらを心底憎いと思ってるからだ、 ハントレスと同じさ。この狼男がバレリーを攫(さら)った奴らの仲間なんだとしたら、あの娘はどこに連れ去られたんだ？ 女のことで俺がこんなことを言うような日が来ようとは夢にも思わなかったぜ、だが俺はあの娘のことが心配でたまらないんだよ！	💬この回のコンダクターはまるで別人です…。ワイルドでカッコいいですが。そしてなんだか、バレリーを女性として意識してるかのようなセリフです。

The werewolves ran away and we lost Valerie's trail. Are we at a dead end? Night Terrors appeared at the Station immediately after the abduction, what if they've been lured there by an important clue? Goal:  Search for a Clue.	Chapter2 第二章	狼男たちは逃げてしまいバレリーの痕跡を見失ってしまった。捜索は行き詰まってしまうのだろうか？アノマリー「夜の恐怖」がバレリーが攫(さら)われた後すぐに現れた。アノマリーを呼び寄せたのが重要な手がかりになる物なのだとしたらどうしたらいいだろうか？ Goal:  手がかりを探せ。	💬殺しちゃったら居場所が分かんないじゃん…って思ったんだけど、コンダクターがカッコよかったからまあいいか。
[New Evidence] Information about Valerie - Explore any location in the City with the "Night Terrors" effect active.		［新たな証拠］ バレリーに関する情報－「夜の恐怖」の影響下でシティを探索せよ。
Werewolves are no longer seen in the City. They've dragged away their prey and are keeping a low profile. However, we can't sit on our hands - the place Valerie disappeared is haunted by nightmares. They suddenly appear at will and if you find yourself nearby, hold on! All your worst fears materialize before you and a paralyzing horror shackles your hands and feet holding you stock-still. The nightmares left the Station and took an important piece of evidence. Defeat them and we may learn something new about Valerie.	Conductor コンダクター	狼男たちの姿がシティでまるで見当たらないぜ。獲物を連れ帰って、息をひそめてるんだな。かといって、手をこまねいてもいられない－バレリーが消えた場所が悪夢に取りつかれやがったぞ。あのアノマリーは突然勝手に現れる、気をしっかり持って持ちこたえろ！あれに取りつかれると、最も恐れているものが形をもって眼の前に現れてな、凍りつくような恐怖で手足がこわばって動けなくなるんだ。あの悪夢が駅を離れた時に重要な証拠の欠片を持って行きやがったんだな。あいつに打ち勝てば、バレリーについて何か新しいことが分かるかもしれん。	nightmares: 悪夢。ここではアノマリーNight Terrors夜の恐怖の事を言っています。更に擬人化されているのか、Night Terrorsが意思を持っているかのような感じ。 at will: 自由意思で勝手に if you find yourself nearby: 自我を強く保って
Night Terrors is a phenomenon known to all citizens. Creatures from childhood fears and nightmares, unleashed from the depths of the subconscious, lurk in dark corners and hide within mirrors. It takes considerable will to resist these delusions.	Night Terrors 夜の恐怖	「夜の恐怖」とは全市民に知られた不思議な現象である。子供時代の恐れと悪夢から生まれた生き物で、潜在意識の奥底から解き放たれ、暗闇の隅に潜み、鏡の中に隠れている。惑わされず抵抗するには少なからぬ自制心を要する。
You've found Valerie's voice recorder! She liked to record all sorts of city sounds: wind whistling, fog whispering, ghostly moans... Maybe it was on when the werewolves attacked her. Let's listen in case there's anything of interest.	Conductor コンダクター	バレリーのボイスレコーダーを見つけたのか！彼女はあらゆる類の街の音を録音するのが好きだったんだ、風の音(ね)や、霧の囁き、幽霊のうめき声に至るまで…。もしかすると狼男たちがあの娘を襲った時にもスイッチが入ってたかもしれんぞ。聞いてみようぜ、何か分かるかもな。
I've always like the Station and the Conductor; he's such a handsome man! Alas, he's too old and too fond of the bottle. Oh, poor doggies, you look like real goners, even for station dogs. Are you blind? What cruel man did that to you? Wait, I have a meat sandwich. Eat, then I will introduce you to Edward! May I pat you... ? Woah... what's wrong? My head swims... Bright circles... I'm scared...	Valerie バレリー	駅もコンダクターも大好き、けっこう二枚目よね！なのに残念、年を食いすぎてるし、お酒に目がなさすぎるんだもん。あら、かわいそうなワンちゃんたち、今にも死にそうにじゃない、野良犬にしてもひどいわ。目が見えないの？どんな酷い人があなたたちをこんな目にあわせたの？待って、お肉のサンドイッチがあるの。お食べ、それから、この子はエドワードよ！頭をなでてもいいかしら…？ドウドウ、落ち着いて…どうしたの？頭がくらくらする…。チカチカして…、怖い…。	💬バレリー、コンダクターをカッコいいと思ってたんですね。そうですね、お酒のことさえなければ結構いけてますよね。 続くセリフは、バレリーの優しさが垣間見える瞬間です。こういうところが、憎めないんですよね。

Night Terror snatched Valerie's dictaphone. In the recording she's talking about 'blind puppies'. This is our clue that the psy-werewolves were involved in the abduction! Goal:  Find the psy-werewolves.	Chapter3 第三章	「夜の恐怖」がバレリーのボイスレコーダーを持ち去っていた。録音の中で、彼女は「目の見えないワンちゃんたち」について語っていた。これこそが探していた手がかりだ、特殊能力を持つ狼男たちがこの誘拐に一枚かんでいたのだ！ Goal:  特殊能力を持つ狼男たちを追え。	psy: psychicの略。psychicは特に精神攻撃の特殊能力のこと
[Mysterious Werewolves] Taser - Explore the Room of Fate.		［謎に包まれた狼男たち］ テーザー銃－運命の部屋を探索せよ。
Valerie said " the Conductor is a charming man" - I can't help but agree. But "he's old and likes to drink"? Old?! Nonsense! A tough life added these wrinkles, but inside I'm like Peter Pan. Also, I don't like to drink as much as she says. But I digress... Her description of these creatures does not fit with common werewolves. Even badly battered they don't look miserable and sad. And why are they all blind? We need Martha's advice again.	Conductor コンダクター	バレリー曰(いわ)く「コンダクターは魅力的な男(ひと)」だとさ－俺としてもこれには同意せざるを得んな。だが「年を食ってて酒好き」？年食ってるだと？！くだらん！この皺(しわ)には厳しい人生の年輪が刻まれてるんだ、しかし心はピーターパンのように少年のままだぞ。それにだ、俺はあの娘が言うほど酒好きって訳じゃない。おっと話が逸(そ)れたな…。この獣に関する彼女の描写は一般的な狼男のそれとは一致しないんだ。たとえ滅多打ちにしたところで、奴らは可哀そうにも悲しそうにも見えやしないだろ。それになんでそいつらは揃(そろ)いも揃(そろ)って目が見えないんだ？もう一度マーサに助言を頼む必要があるな。	I digress: 話が逸れる ※ダイグレス。主語が人であることに注意。日本語では話が逸れると言うが、話している人が話を逸らすのである。 💬バレリーのハンサム発言に浮かれる中年男…。これをかわいいと思うのか、キモイと思うのかは人によるんだろうなぁ。私は半々でした。せっかくさっきまで渋いおっさんだったのにちょっと台無しな感じではあります。

Valerie's description suggests she encountered Psy-werewolf. Supposedly, some monstrous half-human-half-spirits conducted secret experiments to develop their psychic abilities to search for powerful artifacts. To pacify a psy-werewolf you need a Taser - I think the monsters' memories associate it with instruments of torture. I've mislaid my Taser, you'll have to look for it.	Martha マーサ	バレリーの描写から考え得るに、特殊能力を持つ狼男に遭遇したのね。推定では、半分人間、半分人外の恐るべき存在で、強力なアーティファクトを探す特殊能力を高めるために極秘の生体実験を施(ほどこ)されたんだと言われているの。特殊能力を持つ狼男を抑え込むにはテーザー銃が要るわーおそらく、テーザー銃があの化け物の受けた拷問の記憶を呼び起こすからなのよ。私が持ってたテーザー銃はどこかに置いて場所を忘れてしまったのよね、あなたに探してもらわないとダメそうだわ。	💬特殊能力を持つ狼男を作ったのは誰なんでしょうか？結構悲惨な体験を受けたモンスターのようで、哀愁を誘います。 psychic: サイキック、特殊能力と訳しましたが、特にテレパシーや催眠攻撃などの能力を指します。つまり、この狼男の持つ特殊能力はテレパシーによる心理攻撃です。 💬探索場所は例によって「運命の部屋」の中なのであります…。片付けられない女マーサ健在です。
Electric crackling reminds the Psy-werewolf of the cruel experiments they were subjected to and they flee in terror.	Taser テーザー銃	電気のバチバチと爆ぜる音が、特殊能力を持つ狼男に無理やり受けさせられた残酷な生体実験の記憶を呼び起こさせる。そしてその恐怖が彼らを逃走させるのだ。	💬何か使うのがためらわれる説明です。
That's it. Now you are well prepared to meet a Psy-werewolf.	Martha マーサ	これよこれ。さて、これで特殊能力を持つ狼男に会いに行く準備が整ったわね。
[The first fight is the hardest] Psy-werewolf - Use the Taser and defeat the Psy-werewolf.		［最初にして最大の戦闘］ 特殊能力を持つ狼男－テーザー銃を使って特殊能力を持つ狼男を倒せ。
Have you obtained a weapon to fight Psy-monsters? Great. While you were absent, I spotted a Psy-werewolf. It looks exactly as Valerie described: all battered and shabby. It sat at the City Hall entrance like a watchdog, as if waiting for someone... We need to find out who it's guarding, but first we must get rid of the werewolf. The Taser looks pretty simple - just one button. The important thing is to attack before the monster has time to use its psy-abilities.	Conductor コンダクター	特殊能力を持つ化け物と戦う武器を手に入れたのか？よくやった。お前がいない間、一匹の能力持ち狼男に当たりを付けてたんだ。バレリーが言ってたまんまだな、全身滅多打ちにされててみすぼらしい形(なり)だ。奴は市役所の入口に番犬よろしく座ってやがる、まるで何かを待ってるかのようにな…。奴が何を見張ってるのか探り当てなくちゃならんが、まずは奴を退治しないと。そのテーザー銃てのはえらい簡単な作りっぽいな―ボタンが一個あるだけか。作戦の肝(きも)はあの化け物に特殊能力を使う猶予を与えずに攻撃しちまうことだ。	all battered and shappy: このallは副詞でall batteredで全身ボコボコにされて
These creatures are both horrifying an the pitiful. Who muzzled them? Who chained them? Their excellent eyesight pierces the mist, so they can locate the rarest artifacts. Psy-werewolf can be very dangerous. Their main weapons are telepathy, mental attacks and hypnosis.	Psy-werewolf 特殊能力を持つ 狼男	この獣は恐ろしくもあり、同時に哀れでもある。一体誰が口輪を嵌(は)めたのだろうか？一体誰が鎖で縛ったのだろうか？彼らの卓抜(たくばつ)した視覚は霧をも見通し、稀なるアーティファクトの場所を突き止める。特殊能力を持つ狼男はとても危険な存在だ。彼らの主な攻撃手段はテレパシー、精神攻撃、催眠である。
Look! After you dealt with the Psy-werewolf, a small animal came from City Hall - Valerie's ferret! She constantly fusses over... what's-his-name? Edmund! Look, he recognizes me. There's a piece of paper under his collar with just one word on it: "River". Written in blood.	Conductor コンダクター	見ろ！お前があの能力持ち狼男をやっつけた後、ちっこい動物が市役所から出てきたぞ－バレリーのフェレットだ！いつも気にかけてたよな…なんてったけか？エドモンドだ！見ろ、俺が分かるんだ。紙切れが首輪の下にあるぞ、ただ一語だけだ、「河」。血で書かれてやがる。	recognize: 見分ける、見て誰それと分かるという意味。エドワードはコンダクターの顔を覚えていたようです。頭のいいフェレットですね。なのにコンダクターはエドワードの名前を憶えていないという…(泣)

After the death of a psy-werewolf, Valerie's marten ran out of City Hall carrying a strange note in his collar. The note has only one word... 'River'. Is Valerie hidden by a river? Goal:  Get to the river.	Chapter4 第四章	特殊能力を持つ狼男が死んだ後、バレリーの飼っていたテンが市役所から駆け出してきた、首輪に奇妙なメモを付けて。このメモにはただの一語だけが記されていた…「河」と。バレリーは河の側(そば)に閉じ込められているのだろうか？ Goal: 河に向かえ。	💬ferretとmartenは別物で大きさが全く違うんだそうですが、コンダクターはferretと言っているので、主人公が捜査手帳に書き込む際にテキトウだったのでしょう。ということにしておく。
[Ferret's Best Friend] Apple - Explore the Enchanted Ball.		［フェレットの大好物］ 林檎－魅惑の舞踏会を探索せよ。
I understand we need to find Valerie quickly, but first we must feed her pet. She'd never forgive me if her best friend starved, he's already bitten all my fingers! Valerie used to feed him apples. Sounds incredible, but Valerie was very proud that her little pet was a vegetarian.	Conductor コンダクター	俺としちゃバレリーを一刻も早く見つけなくちゃならんのは承知してるが、まずはあの娘のペットを食わせてやらないと。親友が飢え死にしたとなりゃ、絶対に俺を許しちゃくれんだろうからな、こいつは既に俺の指を片っ端からガジガジと噛んじまってるんだ！バレリーはいつもこいつに林檎をやってたよな。嘘みたいな話に聞こえるだろうが、バレリーはこのちっちゃなペットがベジタリアンだってのをえらく自慢にしてたんだぜ。
Wow! Looks like Edmund hasn't eaten for days! He's just eaten a whole apple and I think he wants another. Control your appetite, little friend, we have to rescue your mistress first.		うおう！エドモンドは何日も食ってなかったみたいだな！もう林檎をまるごと食っちまって、まだ欲しそうにしてるぜ。食欲を抑えてくれよな、小さな友よ、俺たちはまずお前のご主人様を助け出さなきゃならんのだからな。	💬コンダクターはずっと名前を間違えたままです。この辺の大雑把さがなんか、性格が出てる感じがしますね。

About Valerie's note. There's only one river here, which means the werewolves went there. Eh, women. Always trouble. That's why I've stayed away from them my whole life. But I think this path's come to a dead-end. Inside the chest was a map with a house marked by the river. Is this the place where the werewolves are hiding Valerie? Goal:  Examine the house by the river.	Chapter6 第六章	チェストの中には河べりの家にバツ印のついた地図があった。この場所が狼男たちがバレリーを閉じ込めている場所なのだろうか？ Goal:  河べりの家を調べろ。

The house is empty, but sounds are coming from cellar. We need to fight our way there - I'm sure the werewolves locked Valerie downstairs. We can't open the hatch - we have to work it with our hands.	Conductor コンダクター	家は空っぽだが、地下室から音がするぞ。そこで奴らをなぎ倒して血路を切り開かにゃならんわけか－きっと狼男たちはバレリーを床下に閉じ込めたんだ。ハッチが開かないぞ－どうにかこじ開けないとマズいぜ。	fight one's way: 敵をなぎ倒して血路を切り開く 💬描写がありませんが、ハッチの向こう側にバレリーと一緒に狼男たちが立てこもっているということなのでしょう。開けた途端にわさっと狼男たちが出てきそうです。

I swear by my flask, if they catch you again I won't rescue you!		おい、出てこい！そうだ、俺だ、「年食ったコンダクター」だぜ。年は食ってるかもしれんが、狼男たちが今しがた逃げて行ったのがお前の目にも入っただろ。この酒用フラスクにかけて言っとくが、またお前が奴らに捕まっても、金輪際(こんりんざい)助けてやらねえからな！	💬やはり地下には狼男たちも一緒にいて、なぎ倒したら逃げて行ったという事のようですね。バレリーは一番奥にいたということなんでしょう。大活劇の場面の描写がないのが残念です。しかしカッコいいなぁ。完全にヒーローじゃんか。
