| Spare a minute of your time for a humble monk, my friend. I was meditating in the Oriental Temple, but my concentration was interrupted by the fall of an ancient, azure porcelain vase. There was a scroll with a riddle inside: "Only the one who has understood beauty and science, generosity and frugality; who has discovered themselves and found the sacred place of their soul will acquire the vessel of wisdom." 拙僧にしばしお時間を頂けませぬかな、友として。わしは東洋の寺で瞑想しておったのじゃが、古(いにしえ)の青磁(せいじ)の花瓶が落ちて来て、集中を中断されてしまいましてな。中に謎かけの書かれた巻物が入っておったのじゃよ－「美と理(ことわり)、寛容と倹約を理解せし者－己のなんたるかを見出し、魂のあるべき神聖なる場所を見付けし者だけが、知恵の器を手にするであろう」とな。興味深いとは思わぬか？この年寄りが古の謎かけを解くのに力を貸して貰えぬかのう？ |
★豆知識：vaseは実は英米で発音が全然違う。英：ヴァーズ複ヴァーズィズ、米：ヴェィス複ヴェイシス 💬老子にmy friendって言われると、ちょっと嬉しくてムズムズするなぁ。だって仙人みたいなんだもん。 frugality: 質素倹約 ★celadon 青磁(せいじ)：古来から中国で作られていた釉薬を塗られた磁器。中国語では青瓷と書く。青と言いつつ緑っぽい。ホンモノの青磁はかなりの骨董品。挿絵を見ると模様があるので青磁ではないかもしれないが。 |

relic: 古くから伝わる歴史的価値の高い物。ここではほぼ骨董品と同義だが、relicと言うと金銭的価値より歴史的な価値に重きが置かれる 💬壊しちゃえばいいじゃんっていう発想が刑事らしいけど、ホンモノの青磁ならとんでもない値段だから割るのはナシだろう(笑) |
