★司南(しなん)：古代中国で使われていた方位磁針の一種。lodestone(天然の磁石)で出来た匙(さじ)を方位を盤の上に載せて回すと、磁力を持った匙が南を指して止まるというもの。回転しやすいから匙なのだと思うが、なにしろ2000年以上前のシロモノなので詳細が不明。 参照：History of the compass from Wikipedia ※下の方に司南の説明と写真がある。たしかにスプーンだ(驚)。 💬いわゆるコンパスの記録の最初は11世紀くらいでさほど古代でもないのが意外だったんだが、実際には記録にないだけで存在してたんじゃないかという気もするんだよな。lodestone(天然の磁石)自体は紀元前からあるんだし、糸で吊るすと同じ方向を向くことくらい誰かが気付きそうなもんだ。 |

★Fulu 符箓(ふろく/フゥールー)：中国の土着宗教の僧である道士とかが書くお札の総称。キョンシーがおでこに貼ってる護符みたいなやつ。 won't let those impure in heart through：心根の卑しき者たちが通り抜けるのを防いでくれるであろう let 人 (go) through:人を通り抜けさせる ※このthroughは前置詞ではない事に注意。goなしなら形容詞、goがあれば副詞。 those (who are) impure in heart: 心根の卑しき者 ※those 形容詞 in heartで「心根の~な者たち」という意味になる |
