What's that?は抑揚によって意味が変わる ①What's that?⤴：え、今なんて言った？どういう事？ ※この時のthatは相手のセリフ。 ②What's that?⤵：あれは何？君の持ってるのは何？ ※英語では相手の持ち物もthat。 ※ここの英語のセリフは状況がとても分かりにくいが、多分マーサは取り出したあと、一人で眺めながら独り言を言っていたのだろう。それを主人公が脇から詳しい解説を求めたのではないかと思われる。自分が持っているものならthisになるので、このWhat's that?は主人公のセリフをマーサが鸚鵡返しに言っているっぽい。 ①なら直前のマーサのセリフの②ならマーサの持っている物の解説を求めている。 |
