| While exploring the City's catacombs, I found an old ritual. It described a method of obtaining the Symbol of Balance. This is a very valuable amulet. It balances good and evil in a person, and can also reveal special places where the balance of a magical field has been disturbed. Will you help me? First, find the old City Codex. It symbolises stability in the City and is an essential part of the ritual. |

★catacombs カタコンベ：地下にある共同墓地。しゃれこうべがまんま積んであるようなやつ。※発音注意、日本語と読みが違う。英カタクームz/米カタコゥムz ★codex コーデックス: (発音コゥデクス)本の体裁をした古代の手書き文書、scroll(巻物)と分類するための用語。時代的には羊皮紙とかパピルス時代。manuscript(マニュスクリプト)も手書きだが、古くなくてもmanuscriptと言うのに対し、codexは必ず古い。※日本語の辞書には写本という訳があるが、codexに書き写した本という意味はなく、原本かもしれない。印刷技術のないcodexの時代、全ての本は手書きであり、写本の方が圧倒的に多いだけ。 💬このコーデックスは原本だろうな。揺るぎないシティの象徴が写本のわけがない。 |

分銅(ふんどう)セット：天秤に使う重り。重さの違いで色んな大きさのものがセットになっている。手で触って脂で重さが変わるのを避けるため、ピンセットで抓めるように頭に細い取っ手が付いている。 Scales and weights (picture) 💬なんで博物館なんだ？と思ったけど、今はもう機械で量るから分銅セットなんて博物館にしかないのかもな…。寂しい時代になったなぁ。 化学用の天秤セットには、分銅より軽い0.1gとかの金属プレートとかも付いていたんだよ。ピンセットでそーっと載せて、ぴったりバランスが取れると嬉しかったりしたんだ。そうか、もう骨董品なのか…。 |

Alright, now we place the map on one side of the scales, and the City Codex on the other. Then we balance them with the weights. Great! Now we cover it with the jar.
