《共通認識のthe》 the water: 水中 ※水は普通無冠詞だが、陸地との対比で水中にという時にはtheが付く。大地と言う意味でthe groundにtheが付くのと同じ。the は話している相手と自分に共通認識があるモノに付く。大地や水中はいきなり出て来ても共通認識がある。話者のみではないことに注意。相手が知らないモノにtheをつけてはいけない。 例えば、「駅前にデカい樹があるだろ？」と言う時は、話している本人の中では具体的な樹を指していても A big tree stands in front of the station? となる。相手がその樹を知っている保証がないからである。 |
