Den! Den! DEN! I can't even think of anything else now. Just imagine,
our City has a secret den of werewolves. For years they dragged the most
valuable artifacts and treasures there. If we're lucky, we can even find
the Crown of a Werewolf Leader. This artifact bestows a leader with
extraordinary abilities and can make him invisible. According to the legend, the Crown of a Leader will appear in the circle of five items of the strongest rivals defeated by their leader - a knight's helmet, a family medallion, a goblet, a breastplate and an armored glove. If we gather all the items, honour the fallen heroes and challenge the werewolf leader, we'll then see the Crown. |

塒(ねぐら)！塒！ねーぐーらー！寝ても覚めてもそればかり気になって仕方がない。考えてもみろ、我々のシティに狼男どもの塒があるんだぞ。長年に渡って、奴らは最高に価値あるアーティファクトやら宝やらをそこに溜め込んで来たんだ。ツイてれば、狼男の頭領(とうりょう)の冠だって見付かるかもしれない。そのアーティファクトこそが頭領に超常の能力を授け、ヤツを不可視にしているのさ。 伝説によれば、「頭領の冠」はとある五つの品を円形に並べた時、その中央に現れるとある、それは奴らの頭領によって斃(たお)された最強の挑戦者たちの持っていた品でな－騎士の兜、一族のメダリオン、ゴブレット、ブレストプレート、そして籠手だ。全てのアイテムを集めて闘いに斃(たお)れた英雄たちの栄誉を讃え、狼男の頭領に決闘を挑めば、その冠を目にすることになるだろうさ。 |
den: 塒(ねぐら)、洞穴などの小さな巣穴。隠れ家の比喩でもある。※lairと非常に似ているが、lairは地下に掘られた巣穴の意で、危険な動物の巣穴っぽい響きがあるLioness's lairとか。こちらも悪者のアジト、隠れ家の意にも使われる |

| The first item is a knight's helmet. Once, a knight disappeared in the City after loudly declaring that no werewolf could ever defeat him. No one saw his face because he never took his helmet off. But the next day, the knight disappeared, and the werewolf leader was seen wearing his helmet. |

| The second item is a silver medallion. It displays a portrait of the Mayor's mother. The werewolf leader created it to mock the Mayor. Why would it mock him, you ask? Because it was made from the silver bullets with which the citizens tried to kill the werewolf leader. |

二つ目の品は銀のメダリオンだ。それには市長のご母堂の肖像が入っていてね。狼男の頭領は市長を嘲笑(あざわら)うためにそれを作ったのさ。一体どうしたらそれが市長を嘲笑う事になるのかと言うのが疑問なのかい？そのメダリオンはな、狼男の頭領をどうにか殺そうと試みた市民たちの使った銀の弾丸から作られていたからだよ。 | 💬メダリオンを鋳造できるほどの社会性があるって言う方が驚きなんだが？しかもなかなか不敵でカッコいいじゃないか。 |

| In revenge, the Mayor decided to poison the werewolf leader. He made a trap with a cup full of poison and spread the rumour that there was a potion in the cup that could turn any werewolf back into a human. By morning, the cup had gone, but no one had seen the thief. Find this cup. |

| The werewolf leader flew into a rage from being tricked. The frightened Mayor asked a blacksmith to create a heavy-duty breastplate for protection; but as you've no doubt already guessed, by morning both the blacksmith and the breastplate had disappeared. The breastplate must be somewhere around here. |

well kept: 誰も知らない秘密を抱える ※ワンセットで形容詞 《先行詞が場所でない関係副詞 where》 This is the case where the ability~ in whichとかの代わりにwhereが使われることがある。先行詞は概念的に空間的広がりを感じさせる単語が対象で、本文のcase(事案)もその一つ。ちなみに時間的な広がりがある単語だとwhenになるが、圧倒的にwhereの方が多い。前置詞を使わなくていいから便利。 💬でも冠は一つしかないぞ？被ってない方は見付かっちゃうじゃん(汗) |
