《Hunting Werewolves》	Case №43	《狼男狩り》
The werewolves have become suspiciously active lately. The collective thoughts of the pack have started visiting the detective, who once almost joined their ranks. A certain "Doctor" has been brought up as well. Why is this person so important to the werewolves? The time has come to rein in the beasts and reveal the secret of this mysterious Doctor!	Introduction 序文	最近、狼男たちが疑わし気な行動を取るようになって来ている。かつて一度狼男の仲間入りをしそうになった刑事の頭には、ある考えがまとまりつつあった。同時に、とある「ドクター」という人物の話しも持ち上がって来ている。何故この人物が狼男たちにとってそれ程にまで重要なのだろうか？猛獣たちに手綱を付け、ミステリアスな「ドクター」の秘密を暴く時がやって来た！

Werewolves are known for their interest in magical artifacts, but recently, human things not imbued with magical powers have been found in their possession. Could they belong to the Doctor? Let's collect them and use them to reveal who he is. Goal:  Find out more about the Doctor's identity. Remember when I almost turned into a werewolf, buddy? On a full moon, I suddenly remembered that all werewolves think like one organism, and the Doctor's name is often on their minds. Who is he? Is he a victim or a friend to the beasts? We need to find out more about him! The Huntress says that the werewolves are often carrying non-magical human things with them. Maybe they belonged to the Doctor? Let's find them! This "Doctor" is somehow connected to the werewolves! I bet this is another one of the Shadow's minions, using mindless beasts to fulfill the demands of their "master!" He's going to hear from me when we pick up his trail. A werewolf recently aimed a pistol at me clumsily, but it didn't fire. Let's find and examine his weapon. The antique pistol is inscribed with the initials E.F. Maybe it belonged to the Doctor? This man obviously didn't feel safe. The pistol was abandoned in the process of reloading.		この古めかしいピストルにはイニシャルが彫られてるぞ、E.Fとな。もしかするとこれはドクターのモノなのか？この男は明らかに気が動転してたんだな。このピストルは銃を装填する途中で放り捨てられたんだろ。	💬ファーストネームは分からないけど、ラストネームのFはFrankenstein フランケンシュタインじゃないかなぁ？名前だけチラッと《Enchanted Ball 魅惑の舞踏会》に出てきた博士。

When we tracked down the Detective among the werewolves, I noticed that one of them was wearing a Broken Pince-nez. At first, I thought this was someone in the middle of shapeshifting. Maybe the Doctor wore them? Please, find the pince-nez.	Juliette ジュリエット	狼男に紛れている刑事さんを追いかけてる時、その中の一匹が壊れた弦ナシ眼鏡をしてるのに気付いたの。最初、変身途中の人がいるって思ったんだけど。もしかしたらそのドクターって人がその眼鏡をしてたのかしら？お願い、弦ナシの眼鏡を見付けて。	★pince-nez: アンジェラの公園にもよく落ちているアレです。耳に掛ける弦がなく、鼻で挟んで止めるようになっている眼鏡です。カードシャープのトレードマークでもありますね。フランス語で読みは「パンスネイ」、パとネにアクセント。
The Broken Pince-nez are inscribed with the same initials as the pistol - E.F! They look expensive and respectable... I guess the Doctor was intellectual.		壊れた弦ナシ眼鏡にもピストルと同じイニシャルが彫られてるわ－E.Fって！高そうだし、ちゃんとした人って感じね…。きっとドクターって知的な人なのよ。	💬パンスネイが知的でちゃんとしてるなら、カードシャープはどうなんだ？

The Doctor's ring you found reminded me of medical papers marked with the snake and chalice. I saw a werewolf dragging a whole box of papers like that into the fog. I was even worried they were stolen from City Hall. Will you bring back the papers?	Mayor 市長	君が見付けてきたドクターの指環を見て、蛇と聖杯のマークが押された医学誌があったのを思い出したよ。狼男がその手の文書の入った箱をまるごと引きずって霧の中に消えて行くのを見かけたのだ。よもや市役所から盗まれたのではと心配していたのだがな。あの文書を取り返して来てくれないかね？	★Bowl of Hygieia ヒュギエイアの杯：ギリシア神話の医学の神Asclepius アスクレピオスの娘ヒュギエイアの持っていた杯で医学・医術の象徴。蛇の巻き付いた杯のマーク。
The Doctor's stamp on these newspaper clippings is from the nineteenth century. Our scientist was interested in the shapeshifting phenomenon, fancy that! But why? I saw a werewolf with a bag full of medicine. I was so surprised, but now everything is coming together. Get the bag away from that monster, but be careful! We must find out more about this Doctor.	Inspector 捜査官	医薬品で溢れ返った鞄を持った狼男を見かけたのだがね。それはもう驚いたのだが、ようやく合点がいったよ。あのモンスターから鞄を取って来たまえ、だが気を付けるのだぞ！我々はこのドクターとやらに関してもっと多くの事を突き止めねばならないのだからな。	come together: 物事が上手く運ぶ。ここでは、意味が分からなかったのがすっきりしたという意味。
These drugs don't look like they're meant for first aid. We'll need to send them in for analysis. Although the Doctor was a physician, it also looks like he was a researcher.		この薬はどうやら救急用ではなさそうだ。分析に送らねばならんな。ドクターは内科医だったようだが、研究者のようでもあるね。	💬英語では医者でも研究者でもドクターなのでどっちもあり得ます。いわゆるお医者さんだとはっきりさせたい時はDoctor of Medicineと言います。

You managed to find some things abandoned by the werewolves that supposedly belonged to this mysterious Doctor. I feel the thread of his aura uniting them, but it's different from the aura of an ordinary person. Help me prepare the ritual and I'll try to find out more about him. The Doctor from the human world was obsessed with legends about werewolves and sought evidence of their existence. It isn't known whether he's visited the City, but some of the Doctor's things have ended up here. He locked his discoveries in a safe and the key to it is in those very werewolf legends from around the world. What's hidden in the safe? Goal:  Crack the Doctor's Safe. [Wolf Heritage] Find the Wolfman Seal. - Fight against the Werewolves.	43-2 ①	［狼の遺産］ 人狼の印を探せ。－狼男と戦え。
Buddy, we recently found out that some weirdo called the "Doctor" wound up in the City. He was very interested in werewolves in the real world and tried to prove that the legends were true. Then he found the City of Shadows where these "legends" are real and could actually harm him. To find out what happened, you need to crack the Doctor's safe. He wrote that the key is actually five werewolf seals. Have you ever encountered anything like that? Shall we look? Werewolves will go after any strange object, just like magpies, mein freund. I swear on my blade, they stole the seals of transformation that the Doctor used to lock the safe. But look! There are depressions on the door for these seals and one looks like a paw print of a wolf. Look around the City for this werewolf seal.	Huntress ハントレス	狼男ってのはあらゆる奇妙なモノを手に入れようとするからな、それこそカササギみたいにだ、マイン･フロイント。この剣に誓って、ドクターが金庫に鍵をかけるのに使っていた変身の印を盗んだのは、ヤツラだと断言しよう。おや見てくれ！金庫の扉にはその印のための窪みがある、うち一つは狼の前足の足跡に似てるな。この狼男の印をシティで探して回るんだ。	But look!: このbutは逆説でなく、意外なモノを見付けた時の間投詞。驚きを表す。 ★Werewolf 狼男：みなさんご存じ狼男。Lycanthrope ライカンスィロープとも言う。Lycanthropeはギリシャ語由来の英語で、狼(Lycan)人間(thrope)という意味。人間を襲う獣性があると信じられており、中世には魔女狩りの対象にもなっていたらしい。
The first shapeshifter figurine depicts a typical lycanthrope. Why are you surprised? Since the Doctor studied legends about werewolves in the real world, he would surely have started with wolves.		最初の変身能力を持つ生き物の像は典型的な人狼を象(かたど)ったモノだな。何故驚く？ドクターが狼男の伝説を現実世界で研究していたと言うなら、間違いなく狼から始めただろうさ。
[Amazonian Secret] Find the Encantado Seal. - Fight against the Werewolves.	43-2 ②	［アマゾン川の秘密］ エンカンタードの印を探せ。－狼男と戦え。
Getting the second werewolf seal for the Doctor's safe will be harder, but we can do it! It's in the shape of an encantado dolphin, a shapeshifter from Brazilian legends. Of course, I read them! Look for a figurine like that. The encantado figurine fits in the Doctor's safe! I learned about this legend when I was investigating another hoax with a mermaid corpse. Sensational!		エンカンタードの像はドクターの金庫にぴったり嵌ったわ！私がこの伝説を知ったきっかけは、人魚の死体を使ったタチの悪いイタズラがまた出たって言うんでそれの調査をしてたからなのよ。センセーショナルでしょ！
[Red Witch] Find the Kitsune Seal. - Fight against the Werewolves.	43-2 ③	［赤い魔女］ 狐の印を探せ。－狼男と戦え。
Judging by the shape on the safe, your Doctor learned of the eastern legend of the spirit Huli Jing, a fox shapeshifter. I had one in my demonic entourage. The western world knows them as kitsune. Find the fox seal.	Yui ユイ	金庫の表面にある形から考えて、そなたらの探すドクターとやらは東洋の伝説の狐狸(こり)の精フーリージンの事も耳にしていたのだな、変身能力を持つ狐だ。私の妖魔の従者にも一人いたぞ。東洋では妖狐(ようこ)として知られているのさ。狐の印を探してくれ。	★Huli Jing 狐狸精: 中国の妖狐。狐狸と書いて狐の事。日本語だと狐狸(こり)と言うと狐と狸の両方を指すが、意味は同じく化かすモノ。 ★Kitsune: 日本の化け狐、あるいは伝承に出てくる狐のこと。英語でkitsuneというと、化け狐の事を指す。なので、3月にシティに現れる化け狐も英語版ではKitsune。
The werewolves couldn't hurt the kitsune figurine. The fox shapeshifter seal is now in its place on the door of the safe. Soon we can open it and find out the Doctor's secret.		妖狐の像は狼男たちにキズを付けられてなかったな。これで化け狐の印は金庫の扉の収まるべき場所に置かれるぞ。もうすぐこの金庫も開ける事ができるから、そうすればドクターの秘密も分かるだろう。
[Gentle and Kind Animal] Find the Selkie Seal. - Fight against the Werewolves.	43-2 ④	［優しく親切な動物］ シルキーの印を探せ。－狼男と戦え。
The northern nation also had many legends about shapeshifting! I think the Doctor might have been interested in the Selkie, the seal-people of the Celts. What if one of the safe's seals is in that shape? Look for the Selkie figurine!	Icy アイシー	北方の国にも変身能力を持つ生き物についての伝承はたくさんあるわよ！ひょっとするとドクターはセルキーにも興味を持ってたんじゃないかしら、ケルト地方のアザラシ人間よ。金庫の印の一つがそういう形だったら？セルキーの像を探してちょうだい！	★Selkie セルキー：ケルト地方に伝わる伝承で、アザラシから人間に化ける。海から上がる時にアザラシの皮を脱ぐと人間になると言われている。男性版も女性版もいて、どちらも非常に美しいのだそう。脱いだ皮を隠しておくとアザラシに戻れなくなるため、セルキーの皮を隠して結婚した男が、皮を見付けられてしまって逃げられたとかいう、日本の天女の羽衣みたいな民話もある。 💬考える事は世界共通(笑)。狼男とちがって平和で美しいshapeshifterだね。
The Selkie figurine depicts a sweet creature, not like all these werewolves! I heard that Selkies are peaceful and gentle creatures. Looks like the seal fits in the safe.		セルキーの像は可愛い生き物を象って作られてるわ、あの狼男とは似ても似つかないわね！セルキーは穏やかで優しい生き物だって聞いたわ。この印も金庫の窪みに嵌りそうよ。
[Spotted Warrior] Find the Leopard Seal. - Fight against the Werewolves.	43-2 ⑤	［ドット柄の戦士］ 豹の印を探せ。－狼男と戦え。
I haven't studied tales about shapeshifters much. But in shaman practice, I remember that sorcerers turned into leopard warriors by conducting a special ritual. Look for a statue of a leopard warrior for the Doctor's safe.	Martha マーサ	私は変身能力を持つ生き物についての伝承はあまり勉強してこなかったのよ。でもシャーマンの実践の授業で、魔導士たちが特別な儀式を執り行う事で豹の戦士に姿を変えたのを覚えてるわ。ドクターの金庫を開けるために豹の戦士の像を探してらっしゃい。	★African Werecat アフリカのウェアキャット：アフリカにはウェアライオンやウェアレオパードの伝説があるらしい。豹に関しては、豹の姿をした神様がいて、それが人と交わって子供が産まれると、shapeshifterになったり、変化しない場合は別の能力を持って産まれたりするのだそう。 アフリカにはWerehyena ウェアハイエナというのもいて、いかにも恐ろしいが、アフリカっぽくて面白い。
The statue of an African leopard warrior portrays an impressive shapeshifter. Of course, the Doctor's safe had space for such a giant werecat.		アフリカの豹の戦士の像というのは、印象的な変身能力を持つ者を表現しているのよ。ほらやっぱり、ドクターの金庫にもちゃんとこういう巨大な猫人間の場所が用意されてるわ。

You've collected all the werewolf seals the Doctor used to lock his safe. The Detective and I spun them this way and that, but the cache still didn't open. I bet a little magic will encourage it. Will you help Madame Isabelle concentrate her power on the werewolf seals?	Inspector 捜査官	ドクターが金庫の鍵に使っていた狼男の印を全て集めたのだね。刑事と私であれやこれやとその印をこねくり回していたのだが、この秘密の金庫は未だ開かないのだよ。多少でも魔法があればこの作業も進むと踏んでいるのだ。マダム=イザベルがこの狼男の印に力を集中するのを手伝ってあげてはくれないかね？	★おまけ：変化能力についてはTherianthropy(スィリアンスィロピィ)に色んな伝説などがまとめられている。Therianthrope (スィリアンスィロープ)の能力という意味。ギリシャ語から来ていて、動物人間のこと。

Only after getting the Full Moon Amulet did we manage to decipher this chapter in the Doctor's journal. An eccentric explorer called the Doctor landed in the City in pursuit of werewolf secrets. Having figured out the Moon Werewolves' dependence on the moon phases, the Doctor decided to "cut them off their power source." But why? To protect the City? We found drawings of strange contraptions. Maybe he used them against the Moon Werewolves. Let's find these instruments and discover what the Doctor was planning on doing with these monsters. In the Doctor's last drawing everything is clear: it's a Restraining Collar! My guitarist had a massive, mean dog who wore the same one. The Doctor wanted to put the werewolves on a leash?! Why would he do experiments on the most dangerous beasts in the City? And what kind of experiments? The mysterious Doctor turned out to be a physician from the real world who loved tales about werewolves and tried to prove that they were real. Ending up in the City, the Doctor was able to study the werewolves without any magic and decided to catch them for his experiments. But what kinds of experiments? Did the Doctor survive the process? The rest of the investigation awaits us buddy! From the mysterious Doctor's research, we found out that a certain magical "formula" is needed for werewolf transformation and that the phases of the moon significantly impact the monster's strength. However, our hopes that the Doctor would use this discovery to protect the City were in vain. It seems the obsessed researcher didn't plan on simply destroying the objects of his interest. The Doctor decided to catch several Moon Werewolves "for special experiments." But why would he experiment on the most dangerous creatures in the City? And what kind of experiments?
