As the Wanderer approached, he pointed at his extinguished lantern. I think he realized I was a lamplighter, so he asked me to fix it.		この彷徨う者は近付いて来るなり、灯の消えたランタンを指さしてな。わしが点灯夫じゃと察して、直してくれと頼みに来たんではなかろうか。
There's nothing to worry about. Wanderers will never hurt you. Take a look at what the Upper City Code says about them.		心配は無用じゃよ。彷徨う者は決して人を傷つけたりせんから。ほれ、その目で読んでみい、アッパーシティ典範(てんぱん)に彼らについて書いてある。
On Wanderers, the protectors of the City There are no beings more mysterious among the City's inhabitants than the silent Wanderers. They appear where the fog brings very dangerous artifacts in order to return them to the fog and prevent a disturbance in the power and energy balance in the City. You shouldn't fear them, as the Wanderers aren't enemies of the townspeople. Everyday the Wanderers protect us by taking away dangerous artifacts, so it's a great honor for me to help one of them.	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	危険なアーティファクトを持ち去る事で、彷徨う者たちは日夜我々を護ってくれておる、そんなワケじゃから、その内の一人を助けるとなれば、わしにとっては大変な名誉じゃよ。
But I don't remember working with Wanderers' lantern before... These unique devices are incredibly durable.		しかし今までに彷徨う者のランタンの仕事をした記憶はないんじゃ…。あの彼ら独自のカラクリ品は恐ろしく頑丈じゃからのう。	💬deviceと言っているということは、単純なランタンじゃないんだね
What could have happened to this Wanderer that his lantern broke and forced him to seek help in the Upper City?		ランタンが壊れて、アッパーシティに助けを捜し求めに来るなどと、この彷徨う者になにが起きたのじゃろうか？
			★解説：ルーカスは「Foggy Eyes 霧の瞳」という特殊能力を持っている。ルーカスの動画で、鳥を眺めた後ぼうっと目が光るのがその「霧の瞳」。
I don't know what happened to this Wanderer, but... Did you know that after going into the fog, I started to see things no one else could?	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	この彷徨う者に何が起きたのかは僕にも分かんないけど…。ねえ、知ってた？僕、霧に足を踏み入れちゃった結果、他の人には見えないモノが見えるようになったんだよね。
Now I see a shadow following the Wanderer. It's evil and predatory like the Dark Hunter, but it's not just him it's after.		今僕の目にはこの彷徨う者をつけ狙う影が見えるんだ。あれはダーク･ハンターみたいに邪悪で攻撃的で…しかも、あれが狙ってるのは彼のことだけじゃないんだよ。
Its arms are reaching for the City. The Wanderer seems to be the last line of defense. That's why I'm sure we should help him!		あれの魔の手はシティにも伸びようとしてる。この彷徨う者が、その護りの最後の砦みたいでさ。だからなんだ、僕がみんなで彼を助けなくっちゃって思うのは！

The Wanderer who turned to us for help is clearly in a lot of trouble! We need to fix his lantern and understand the danger that's following him. I'll write down everything we know in the Diary and catch up with you. Let's start investigating!	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	助けを求めて僕たちを頼って来た彷徨う者は、明らかにすんごい困った状況にあるんだよ！彼が追っていた危険がどういうモノかを理解するには、彼のランタンを直してあげなくっちゃ。ちゃんと君から状況を聞いて、分かったことは僕がぜーんぶ日誌に書いておいてあげるからさ。さあ、捜査を始めようよ！	★Actually, this opening quest came out first before the above remarks in the game, but since it seems to be after these remarks considering the flow of conversation, I exchanged them. 実はこのセリフは上記のセリフの前に出てきましたが、話の流れから言って、こっちが後のはずなので入れ替えました。多分イベントではない事を明確にするために先にポップアップしたんじゃないかな？ catch up with 人：人に後れを取らないようにする、人と情報交換をして最新情報に追い付く
《Light in the Darkness》	Case №U21	《闇を照らす光》
One of the mysterious Wanderers living in the fog found Lucas Light in the Foggy Backstreet and pointed to his extinguished lantern. The boy's father, Carlos, is certain that the Wanderer wouldn't have come unless absolutely necessary. The lantern has to be fixed, but what could have damaged this rugged device? And why does Lucas anticipate trouble connected to it?	Introduction 序文	霧の中に住まうミステリアスな彷徨う者たち、そのうちの一人がルーカス=ライトをフォギー=バックストリートで見付け、自らの持つ灯の消えたランタンを指さした。少年の父カルロスははっきりと確信を持っている、どうしようもなく必要に駆られたのでもなければ、彷徨う者の方からこちらにやって来るなどということはあり得ないと。ランタンは修理しなければならないものの、その一方で、一体何がその頑丈な装置に損傷を与えたのだろうか？そしてルーカスはなぜ、それと関係する問題が起ころうとしているとして身構えているのだろうか？	rugged: 手荒な扱いにも耐えるように設計された、頑丈な anticipate: 何かを先読みして備える ※いい事にも悪い事にも使う

Gifted with special vision, Lucas sees that the Wanderer is haunted by shadows that are reaching for the City. He's sure that we have to help the unusual guest or else the residents will be in trouble. Carlos has agreed to fix the lantern, but first we need to disassemble the device and find out what caused its failure. Goal: Disassemble and study the lantern.	Chapter1 第一章	「霧の瞳」という特殊能力を持つルーカスの目には、彷徨う者が影に付きまとわれている様子が映っており、その魔の手はシティにも伸びているらしい。ルーカスはこの風変わりな訪問者を助けてやらなければならないとの確信を抱いている、さもなくば住民たちが危険に晒されることになると。カルロスは彷徨う者のランタンを修理する事を請け負ったものの、まずはこのカラクリを分解して、何が不具合を引き起こしたのかを突き止める必要がある。 ゴール：ランタンを分解して調べろ。	*Now ①③⑤ are available from Wanderers, ② from the Foggy Backstreet, ④ from Diggers. Hmm, at first glance the Wanderer's lantern is working. I don't see any major damage. Just a few scuffs and scratches.	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	むう、ぱっと見では彷徨う者のランタンはちゃんと機能しとるようじゃが。大きなダメージもないし。擦り傷とひっかき傷がいくつかあるだけじゃぞ。	scuffs: 擦り傷 ※物の表面の傷 💬返事ができないから、「seem to mind 気にしてなさそう」と様子から判断してるんですね。無言でじーっと眺めてるとかなんでしょうか？
To learn the cause of the breakdown, we need to disassemble the lantern and study its design. The Wanderer doesn't seem to mind.		故障の原因を探るとなると、ランタンを分解して構造を調べるしかないのう。彷徨う者にも異存はなさそうじゃし。

After disassembling the Wanderer's lantern and finding the damaged part, we'll be able to repair it. As I'm working with this device, I'm realizing how great its designs is. In fact, the Wanderer's lantern is psychically connected to its owner! here, look at this spectral separator.	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	彷徨う者のランタンを分解して、損傷したパーツを見つけ出したあとで、ようやく修理ができるようになるんじゃよ。分解してみて分かったんじゃが、いやはやこの装置、素晴らしい設計じゃぞ。なんと、彷徨う者のランタンは精神感応的な力でその持ち主と接続されておるんじゃ！ほれ、この分光器を見てみい。	★Spectral Separator 分光器：光を分離する装置。太陽光を七色に分離するプリズムなども分光器の一種だが、特定の波長の光のみを抽出する装置もある。彷徨う者のランタンの分光器は、おそらく赤い波長の光のみを抽出して増幅している。ときどき彷徨う者がランタンを持ち上げると赤い光が強くなるのは、分光器が作用しているのだろう。separatorの発音はセパレイターでセにアクセント
This spectral separator captures the Wanderer's thoughts and changed the settings of the lantern's beam. It's very convenient in poor visibility. I thought the lantern might not work due to problems with the separator, but this part is working properly. The issue lies somewhere else.		この分光器は彷徨う者の思念を読み取って、ランタンから発せられるビームの設定を変える役目をしとるんじゃよ。これは視界の悪い状況ではとても便利じゃな。わしはこの分光器に問題があってランタンが動かない可能性を考えておったんじゃが、この部品はきちんと機能しとる。問題はどこか別の箇所じゃろうて。

An extinguished Wanderer lantern is so wrong. The City needs light! We need to fix it as soon as possible. When my father took apart the lantern, I saw a bunch of swarming light bulbs. They look like mechanical bees! Catch a swarming light bulb. What if something's wrong with them?	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	彷徨う者のランタンの灯が消えちゃったなんて、超ヤバいじゃん。シティには明かりが必要だもん！できるだけ早く直してあげなくっちゃ。父さんがランタンを分解した時、僕見たんだ、虫の大群みたいな豆電球を。機械仕掛けの蛍みたいなんだよ！ねえ、あの豆電球を一匹捕まえてよ。もしかしてあれの具合が悪いのかもしれないでしょ？	※群れるところから、本文では蜂となっているが、光っているので蛍に意訳 💬彷徨う者のランタンの灯って、豆電球ボタルの明かりなのか？リアル蛍の光？ hierarchy: 社会的階級、ヒエラルキー ※発音注意、英語ではハイアラーキー。 ★日本語では蛍にしてしまったが、先に豆球たちが蜂に喩えられていたのは、蜂がヒエラルキーを持っているから。とはいえあれは社会性というより、群れで一個体として動いていると考える方が良い気がする。生殖機能は女王にしかないし。体が分裂してるようなもんだよね。
While you were catching this swarming light bulb, the others were flying around as if protecting it. My father said the light bulbs even have their own hierarchy, and their job is to spread the lantern's light in difficult areas, such as caves. The bulbs are intact, but why doesn't the lantern's light burn?		あなたがこの豆球蛍を捕まえようとしてる間、他の仔たちはまるでそいつを護るみたいに周囲をブンブン飛び回ってたんだよ。父さんの話ではこの豆球蛍たちには独自の社会的階級まであって、この仔たちの仕事はランタンの灯を洞窟とかみたいな明かりの広がりにくい場所で、明かりを広げることなんだってさ。豆球たちは壊れてないね、じゃあなんでランタンの明かりは点かないんだろう？

Once we find the faulty component, we'll make the Wanderer's lantern shine again. Interestingly enough, I see a lot of small tubes inside the device's body. Looks like they're designed to circulate some kind of gas. Can you help me find the gas tank that feeds the lantern?	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	不具合のある部品を見付けてさえしまえれば、彷徨う者のランタンをもう一度輝かせる事もできるのにのう。興味深い事に、この装置本体の内部には細いチューブがいーっぱい走っとるんじゃ。ある種のガスを循環させるために、そう設計されているようなんじゃが…。ランタンに燃料を供給しとるガスタンクを見付けるから、手伝ってくれんか？	💬小さそうに見えるのに随分複雑な作りなんだなぁ…。実はその管が彷徨う者の体と繋がってても驚かないけどね。 (下段) corrode: 錆が金属を腐食する brittle: 固いけれども脆い、不安定な 《,as be/do/can S「~も同様に」の倒置》 as are the tubes: チューブも同様に ※主文にくっつけて、(主文と同様に)~も同じくという時は、as+助動詞+主語の語順(倒置)になる。但し、倒置するのは主語が違う場合だけ。 He won the game this year, as he did last year. (彼は去年同様今年もゲームに勝った)のように、主語が同じ場合は倒置しないので注意。 返事で「so do I (私も同じく)」と言う時も同じ用法
I saw a similar kind of gas somewhere. Give me a moment... I remember! This is lightning gas that absorbs the energy of darkness. It's extremely useful, but if it leaks, it can corrode brittle metals. The gas tank is intact, as are the tubes, so they aren't related to the lantern's breakdown.		どこかで似たようなガスを見た事があるのう。えーと、なんじゃったかな…。思い出した！闇のエネルギーを吸収する稲妻ガスじゃ。あれは途轍もなく使い出があるんじゃが、漏れ出すと不安定な金属を腐食してしまうんじゃよ。ガスタンクに瑕疵(かし)はないのう、チューブにもじゃ、つまりこの二つはランタンの故障に関係ないっちゅうことじゃな。

By learning why the Wanderer's lantern broke, we'll be able to protect my new friend from danger. We just need to figure out what's wrong with it... Father said that the lantern captures the Wanderer's thoughts, but what if it can't do that anymore? Let's take a look at its mental guide!	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	彷徨う者のランタンをがどうして壊れたのかを探ったら、僕の新しい友達を危険から護ってあげられるようになるんでしょ。あとはランタンの何がオカシイのかを突き止めればいいだけなんだけど…。父さんが言ってたよね、あのランタンは彷徨う者の思念を読み取ってるって、でももしそれが今はもう機能してないとしたら？あれの思考分配器をじっくり見てみようよ！	《thoughtsとmind：思考と考える心》 どちらも似たような言葉ですが、良い喩えを言っている人がいました。mindはthoughtsが入っている箱のようなものだと。 ・mind：色々と思考する頭そのもの。念頭に置くという時の頭。すっぽり頭から抜けていたと言う時の頭。思考力 ・thoughts：そのmindで考える中身の事。考え。
This mental guide is essentially a living crystal. It's so wonderful! When I touch it, I feel the Wanderer's emotions echoing. His anxiety and worry... This mental guide is properly receiving the thoughts of the lantern's owner, which means that something else is broken.		この思考分配器って、本質的には生きたクリスタルなんだって。それってすごい不思議！これに触ると彷徨う者の感情がうわんうわんって反響してるのが伝わってくるや。彼の不安や心配が…。この思考分配器はきちんとランタンの持ち主の思念を読み取ってるよ、ってことは何か他のモノが壊れてるんだね。
[BITTER MEMORY] Find the Memory Ichor. - Explore the Foggy Backstreet.	U21-1 ⑤	［苦い記憶］ 記憶の霊液を探せ。－フォギー=バックストリートを探索せよ。
I don't have a clue as to what's broken in the Wanderer's lantern. Apparently, this device is able to store a certain amount of information about the world around it, which is necessary for its proper configuration. Maybe the memory ichor is full? It's a special liquid. Let's find it.	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	彷徨う者のランタンの何が壊れとるのか、さっぱり手がかりがないのう。見た所、この装置は周辺から得た情報を一定量貯められるようにできとるようなんじゃ、周囲の情報っちゅうのが装置をきちんと調整するのに必要らしくてな。ひょっとすると、記憶の霊液がいっぱいなのか？ああ、記憶の霊液っちゅうのは特殊な液体でな。それを探してくれい。	★ichor アイコー/神々の血(霊液)：ギリシャ神話で神々の体内を流れているとされる液体で、不死の源になっていると考えられている。人間には劇毒で触れただけで死に至るそうな。 configuration: コンピューターなどの設定、調整

So, the lantern's memory is also in order. Why doesn't it work?		ほれ、この霊液を見てみい。今日この日に至るまで、彷徨う者がどうやって記憶を貯められるこんな物質を作ったのか、知る者は誰一人おらん。これは容量を超えると不透明になるんじゃが、この液体は透明じゃな。つまり、ランタンのメモリーにも問題なしと。なんで動かんのじゃ？	💬その謎の液体の性質をどうしてカルロスは知ってるのかが、一番の疑問なのだが。伊達に点灯夫頭ではないってことなのか？
[GUIDING IMPULSE] Construct the Broadcast Receiver. - Assemble the "Living Mechanisms" collection.	U21-1 ⑥	［導きの波動］ 放射思念レシーバーを製作せよ。－「生きた機械装置」のコレクションを集めよう。
We examined the Wanderer's lantern but couldn't figure out why it went out. Why don't we ask the City? It guides the Wanderers, right? My son is sensitive to energy. Let's assemble a receiver to pick up the City's thought impulse, and then Lucas will decipher it. Can you pass me the tools?	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	彷徨う者のランタンを調べてみたものの、何故その灯が消えたのか解明できんかったのう。もういっそシティに聞いてみるっちゅうのはどうじゃ？彷徨う者を導いておるのはシティなんじゃから、そうじゃろ？うちの息子はエネルギーの流れを敏感に感じ取ることが出来るのじゃし。よし、シティの思念波を拾い上げるレシーバーを組み立てるぞ、受信したら、ルーカスに解析してもらえばええじゃろ。道具を取ってくれんか？	💬彷徨う者のランタンって高性能のコンピューターみたいなんだね。あんなに素朴な見た目なのに(笑)
I'm using the tools to construct a device that looks like a building with antenna towers. After placing the mental guide inside, I'll try to set up the signal's reception. It worked! The broadcast receiver has picked up the thought impulse sent by the City! I hear a strange distant whisper that doesn't resemble a human voice at all. I'll try to take the Wanderer's hand and tune into it...	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	遠く離れたところから奇妙な囁き声が聞こえるよ、人間の声とは似ても似つかないや。彷徨う者の手を取って波長を合わせてみるね…。	tune into~: ラジオなどの波長を~に合わせる。※但しこの意味だと、tune in toと分けて綴る方が一般的
Got it! The City said, "The lantern needs a new, strong heart, which you can get from the dungeon dwellers." I think it's about the diggers!	Lucas Light ルーカス=ライト	分かった！シティはこう言ってるよ、「ランタンは新たに、強力なココロを必要としている、それは地下迷宮の住人から手に入れられる」だって。それってきっと穴掘り屋たちのことだよ！	※訳注：このheartは本来「心臓」或いは「心臓部」の方がしっくりきますが、このストーリー全体の混乱を避けるために敢えてココロにしています。
I think Lucas is right. As a lamplighter, I know that diggers have many amazing tools in their arsenal.	Carlos Light カルロス=ライト	ルーカスの言う通りじゃと思う。点灯夫っちゅう仕事柄、穴掘り屋たちがその保管庫に驚きのツールを山ほどため込んどるのは、わしも知っとるでな。

We got the "heart" from the diggers and repaired the Wanderer's lantern. When Lucas touched it, he had a vision. It turns out that the City sent the Wander to retrieve a dangerous artifact that the Shadow disciples are looking for. The City wants us to find the artifact before they do. But can we understand its clues and get ahead of the enemy? Goal: Follow the City's clues. After a long and dangerous journey with the Wanderer, we got ahold of an artifact of unspeakable power. Along with it was a letter from Jacob explaining that we were holding the Key of Dreams, which belongs to the Order of the Five. It's one of several keys needed to launch the legendary Wish Machine. The Shadow will do anything to get the keys, so we need to keep them safe. What can the Wish Machine do, and why does the Shadow need it?
